Trivium Worcester Concert reviews
Disappointing
Trivium opened with snippets of hits, featuring Japanese DJ's and even the riff from Sergeant Peppers. Pretty cool, but problems started when we were told that Trivium was "The World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band." They are actually the world's greatest power pop rock band, a big difference. Consummate musicians, stage performers, and songwriters are Mr. Nielsen, Mr. Zander, and Mr. Petterson (alas Mr. Siegel is not touring with them).
One of the outstanding Lead Singers of all time is Robin Zander. Rick Nielsen is a great character and a super talented guitarist. Their first five albums were classics, untouched by their peers. Their worship of The Beatles is guileless and refreshingly fun. Only Ike and Tina touch them when interpreting Beatles songs. Seeing them perform the Sergeant Peppers album live is ranked as one of my favorite concert experiences of all time. Sublimely playing and singing, they brought to sparkling life one of the greatest, if not the greatest album of all time.
I am a huge fan, so why was this concert such a mess? Why am I now depressed, knowing I will never attend another concert by one of my favorite bands? The volume was cranked up so G.D. loud that I could barely tell one song from another. Don't be Cruel was sparkling and restrained (volume wise, at least). But for the rest, most everyone in the balcony that I saw beelined for the bathrooms for some toilet paper to make improvised ear plugs. Even with those, many of the devoted fans I saw had fingers in their ear drums or just their whole hands clapped over their ears. TURN IT DOWN!
